Friends Of Kinnaird Ravine
Friends of Kinnaird was started by Ted Campbell in about 2008. The project was a Master Naturalst volunteer effort. Duriing Ted’s tenure, a Cows and Fish riparian health assessment was completed with volunteers, and Patsy Cotterill compiled a preliminary plant list (see below). Ted has since moved to BC.
Kevin Cantelon now helps moderate its FB page and participates in its stewardship with other residents of Viewpoint and The Parkdale Cromdale League. Kevin’s is a biologist and educator who is passionate about protecting urbanites ability to live harmoniously with nature. Rat Creek Press has covered his approach well. ERVCC and Kevin invite you to join the Facebook page and consider getting involved in stewardship activities in Kinnaird. The facebook page is moderated to encourage people to engage in stewardship and nature appreciation. The moderators discourage posting about homelessness as there are better ways for us all to work together to support ending the housing crisis.

Mission of Friends of Kinnaird
To protect the ecological health, biodiversity and natural integrity of the Kinnaird Ravine through advocacy, education, intervention and community organization.
Mandate
We all have a role to play to ‘protect’ and ‘advocate’ for the ecological health, biodiversity and natural integrity of the Kinnaird Ravine through working collectively and collaboratively with the many residential and municipal stakeholders associated with the Kinnaird Ravine.
Friends of Kinnaird Ravine is a stewardship group that arose out of the now defunct City of Edmonton Master Naturalist Program. The program was recognized as an Emerald Finalist for its high level of citizen engagement and overall efficacy in creating support for Edmonton’s Breathe planning document. Breathe is Edmonton’s Green Network Strategy for planning a healthy city by encouraging connection and integration of open space at the site, neighbourhood, city and regional levels. ERVCC would like see renewal of the Master Naturalist program, we advocate for its reinstitution and funding.
Again, Kinnaird Ravine supporters are interested in addressing the root causes of homeless but we discourage posting on the Facebook Page. People living rough is common in Kinnaird, and the FKR wants to ensure they are safe. As Kevin Cantelon says no-one should die alone in a dark ravine.
Friend of the Dunnluce Tree Stand Natural Area
Kathleen Mpulubusi helped to start Friends of Dunnluce to ensure its ongoing protection. When the new zoning bylaw was completed, a notation was removed that made us all feel more confident than now that the city is committed to the protection of the tree stand.
